Sorry Sparky, but there's a new best camera ever. It's called the SD600. And it's coming soon to a Whitecaps game near you. I didn't set out to upgrade, but somehow that is exactly what happened. And I've got to say, I'm glad I did. Everybody sing it...SD600!

tasty!
Let's not get carried away here. Let's not be hasty. The sd600 appears to be a fine camera. I'm sure that it is a fine camera in much the same way that the ford mustang is a fine car. But. Remember the Ford Model T. That was a fine car too. It only came in black, I know. It had a fairly hard suspension for it's time. I know this as well. It was a reliable vehicle and it was affordable to everyman. I also know about the things I just mentioned that's why I said them. And, here I want to point out that these "qualities" in corporate terms were also the failings of the Ford Model T. It is not necessary to replace a vehicle that well... doesn't need replacing. The contemporary auto makers of the Ford Model T introduced new models that were faster, stronger, bigger, etc... I wouldn't say that these new models were "better" than the Model T but they did render it technologically obsolete. When the contemporary auto makers of the Ford Model T had no new technological features to offer the automobile buying public (in order to keep them buying) they introduced cosmetic features like the colour red and cushy seats. These new features did not necessarily mean than the new automobiles were better. They did mean that the Ford Model T was psychologically obsolete. The "problem" with the Ford model T was that it was made too well. It didn't need replacing. The problem with items that don't need replacing is that the people who are employed to make these items have nothing to make. Then they lose their jobs. This is bad for the GDP and the economy in general. The sd300 is bad for the economy: Discuss.

I won't get into the economic ramifications of the SD300 right now, but I will say this: I'm not sure that I'd write off the SD600's larger screen, improved video resolution, faster ISO speed and image processor, as well as 2 million additional pixels as "cosmetic features." In fact I would indeed go so far as to say they make it a "better" camera.
I'm not really down on the sd600. I'm just down with the sd300!
-sparky.
